Kylian Mbappe caps off his best individual season

Kylian Mbappé equals Cristiano Ronaldo’s record as the Frenchman becomes the joint Real Madrid top scorer for most goals in a calendar year (59). The Real Madrid striker had multiple chances during the game to equal the record but had no luck in finding the back of the net. Just when it seemed like he was going to have to settle with 58 goals, his breakthrough arrived in the 84th minute after sending Vlachodimos the wrong way. Kylian Mbappé not only equalled the record but capped off what has been his best individual year in his career, with the Frenchman also managing to claim the Pichichi and the European Golden Shoe earlier in the year. Not to mention he found the net for France seven times in eight appearances which takes his total tally to 66 goals this whole year.
Real Madrid hoping to win silverware this year

Despite enjoying individual success, Real Madrid failed to claim any major trophy in 2025, falling short to Barcelona in all domestic trophies. Kylian Mbappé will now be eager to guide Real Madrid towards silverware in the second half of the season. Real Madrid currently sit in 2nd place behind Barcelona going into the Christmas break but will have their eyes on reclaiming the top spot in LaLiga. Real Madrid will have the chance to claim their first trophy of the season in Saudi Arabia when they take on Atlético in the Supercopa de España. Should they beat their bitter rivals, they will face either Athletic Club or Barcelona in the final. A win in Saudi Arabia will give a Los Blancos side, who have not been at their best, a massive boost going into the remainder of the season.
