Ter Stegen maybe set for an exit in the winter window

Ter Stegen could be on his way to Catalan cross-city rivals Girona, after the Blanquivermells made an enquiry about the German shotstopper over a loan move in January. Recent recurring injuries, most notably the one he suffered against Villarreal which kept him out for most of last season, have seen the Barcelona captain fall down the pecking order for first-choice goalkeepers. Ter Stegen has, however, expressed his desire to stay at the Catalan giants and fight for his place and also stated he would only consider a move if it was a big club. The 33-year-old German may be forced to leave the Catalan capital to get more minutes, given that the World Cup is on the horizon.
From indispensable to a liability

Marc-André Ter Stegen, who once seemed indispensable, has seen his role at Barcelona significantly diminished due to a lengthy spell on the sidelines, the arrival of Szczęsny, and the signing of Joan García. Ter Stegen even came close to leaving the club after he was stripped of his captaincy for refusing to share his medical records, which was a league requirement. With Ter Stegen at the peak age for most goalkeepers, it may be time for him to move to a club where he can be guaranteed a key role in any team that decides to scoop him up.
Despite showing potential to be No. 1 German keeper he never quite cemented his spot a first choice

Despite Ter Stegen’s astronomical saves over the years with Barcelona, the German international never managed to fully solidify his place as Germany’s No. 1 goalkeeper. Considering that Neuer was still performing at a top level during Ter Stegen’s career ascent, the torch was never fully passed down to a player who was seen as the heir of one of Germany’s greatest goalkeepers. With the World Cup in North America coming up this summer, it does not look like he will be between the sticks for Germany either.
