Quarter finals came with goals galore
The Gold Cup’s quarter finals was full of lots of action, goals and exciting moments. Panama, United States, Mexico and Jamaica all progressed to the semi finals. Whereas Canada, Qatar, Guatemala and Costa Rica all endured heartbreak in the Gold Cup. The biggest match of the round was arguably a classic between USA and Canada. Panama eases past Qatar in the Gold Cup
Panama recorded a 4-0 win over Qatar in the Gold Cup in a match that saw Panama dominate on every area. Ismael Diaz proved to be a real headache for the Middle Easterns as he managed to grab a nine minute hattrick. It is the first time since the 2015 Gold Cup that Panama advanced to the semi finals breaking an 8 year drought. They will now have to take on the United States who will arguably be the favorites of that match. On the other hand Mexico managed to get past the line against Costa Rica after defeating them 2-0. Costa Rica was very much still in the game until Erick Sanchez settled the score in the 87th minute with Mexico’s second. Mexico will now go on to face Jamaica where they will be strong favorites in the Gold Cup semi finals.
USA vs Canada the match that had everything
Jamaica narrowly settled their clash with Guatemala with only a goal in the Gold Cup. Amari’i Bell’s goal in the 51stminute proved to be the only goal of the match. The Reggae Boys managed to hold on to their lead which saw them reach the semi finals of the Gold Cup. Despite Guatemala dominating the match in most areas it was not enough to send them through to the Gold Cup semi finals. The main match of the quarter finals was between USA vs Canada. The match could not be decided in 90 minutes or even extra time so it had to go to penalties. USA was minutes away from winning the match but then Vitoria equalized for Canada in the 93rd minute. Canada then took the lead through Shaffelburg in the 109th minute before they scored an own goal which equalized for USA.
