Highs and lows from Tuesdays matches

The Champions League returned to action after the international break for its third round. On Tuesday Ajax took on Napoli, Liverpool took on Rangers, Bayern took on Viktoria and lastly Inter Milan took on Barcelona. Napoli demolished Ajax 6-1 with Raspadori getting a brace. Bayern scored five against Viktoria and Inter Milan edged Barcelona 1-0 to claim 2nd place in their group. Club Brugge is in incredible form in the Champions League as they beat Atletico 2-0. Bayern, Napoli and Club Brugge picked up three points for the third time in a row meaning they are yet to lose in the UCL. Although Barcelona is first place in La Liga they would need to bounce back quick as they are in third place. They face Inter again at the Camp Nou and need a positive result if they are to stay in the Champions League

Highs and lows from Wednesdays matches

On Wednesday Round three resumed with lots of other exciting action and results. Chelsea took on Milan, PSG took on Benfica, Man City took on Copenhagen and many more exciting games. Los Blancos continued their fine form in the Champions League as they beat Shakhtar 2-1.  Although Real got a bit of a scare when Zubkov’s goal gave the Ukrainians a fighting chance close to half-time. Real survived the scare and continued on their winning run in the UCL. PSG opened the scoring through Messi but then lost their lead as they were held  by Benfica. It was a good night for Messi as he scored against his 40th Champions League Club. Les Parisiens still lead their group and are in good contention to advance to the Round of 16. Despite Chelsea not winning their first two games they managed to bounce back against Milan with a 3-0 win.

Teams in great form going into Round 4

This Champions League Round marked the halfway point of the group stage meaning we are getting closer to the knockout phase. Bayern, Club Brugge, Napoli, Real Madrid and Man City have a perfect record in the Champions League halfway through the group stage and they will be hoping to maintain that record. Barcelona, Atletico, Ajax and Juventus will need to pick up the pace if they are to stand a chance of going to the next round. Man City will be hoping to finally win their 1st UCL as they have a complete squad with Haaland. Haaland has 19 goals this season and five in three UCL games. Chelsea will be hoping to survive a tight group where they are only one point away from the bottom. Chelsea will also be hoping to come in 1st place so they can avoid a tough team in the next round.
