Round of 16 of the World Cup failed to disappoint and it definitely lived up to the hype and excitement.
Many goals were scored and many shocks happened as well proving why we love the world cup so much
especially this one.
Now the final eight of the world cup remain and it is getting closer and closer to the
finale of the world cup. Futbol Mundial brings you the best moments from the Round of 16.
Argentina struggle against Australia in the last minute
The first was Argentina vs Australia. This was a game that appeared to be over was Alvarez scored the
second for Argentina. Then once Goodwin’s strike deflected off Fernandez and went in Australia kept on
persisting. Then Aziz Behich turned into Lionel Messi dribbling past a number of players only to have his
strike deflected off an Argentina defender. Lautaro Martinez also missed a couple of opportunities to
end the match against Australia. Then Garang Kuol had a strike saved in the last minute by Emi
Martinez. This match proved that Argentina has their defensive weaknesses and will need to work on
them before facing the Netherlands. Argentina cannot solely rely on Messi to get the ball so they can get
into a match rythym.
Morocco eliminated Spain
The second biggest match was Morocco vs Spain. The North Africans literally shocked Spain and became
the fourth african team to reach the quarter finals. Morocco have only conceded one goal which was an
own goal so far in this World Cup. They shocked La Roja by defeating them on penalty kicks 3-0 which
sent Spain out yet again in the Last 16. Hakimi who scored the winning penalty will be hoping to help
Morocco make history by being the first african nation to reach the semis. Morocco has beaten two
World Cup contenders in Belgium and Spain and can take that inspiration all the way. Morocco was not
tipped to be a World Cup dark horse but they went against the odds and now they are beating the big
teams.
Croatia and Japan brings big time
Japan and Croatia was the next big match. Croatia managed to comeback against Japan who took the
lead in the 43 rd minute and equalized in the 55 th minute. Croatia managed to hold on and beat Japan on
penalties. Undoubtedly despite Japan exiting in the Last 16 they still has a great world cup run and beat
Germany and Spain. As well as Japan had played in the World Cup Croatia’s midfield was too much for
them to handle. Now they face the undaunting task of facing favorites Brazil. Brazil may have a better
attack but Croatia knows how to control the midfield and they will try use that to their favor.
