What to expect and who is tipped to shine

On July 20th another World Cup is set to take place as the Womens World Cup takes place in Australia and New Zealand. It will be the 9th Women’s World Cup and the first to ever be hosted in Oceania. There will be many stars to look out for who could possibly light up the tournament and bring light to it. The last two titles were won by the USA and will be hoping to win their third straight title. If USA win it would be the first time anyone has won the title three times in a row. Futbol Mundial brings you the top five players to look out for in the 2023 Womens World Cup.
Sam Kerr the dazzling Australian

The first would be Sam Kerr who has notched up an outstanding 10 goals in 16 games. Sam Kerr scored an outstanding 5 goals last world cup and will be hoping to take Australia all the way when they host the prestigious tournament in 2023. Kerr has been outstanding player in recent years as she scored 20 goals in the Womens Super League last season. Sam Kerr also managed to notch in 21 goals the season before. She helped Chelsea go all the way to the final in 2021. Winning the golden boot is no easy feet but in the last three years Kerr winning two out of three shows how talented she is. This could be her last World Cup as she will be close to 30 once the tournament is finished.
The American veteran heads into what could be her last WC

Alex Morgan could potentially be heading into her last world cup. Morgan has been nothing but outstanding as she helped the USA win two straight trophies. She was top scorer of the NWSL with 15 goals and guided San Diego Wave to third place being just four points off the top. Morgan also won the golden boot of the last world cup along with Ellen White and Megan Rapinoe. Alex Morgan is 5th place in the all time USWNT top scorers. She also guided the USWNT to a ninth Concacaf title with three goals in five games. The USWNT star will be hoping to deliver the goods for the USWNT this summer.
The Spaniard hoping to put her injury troubles behind her

Putellas is nothing shy of brilliance. She has won her second straight ballond’or and will be hoping to help Spain win their first ever tournament. Alexia Putellas missed the Euros through an ACL injury and her absence was severely felt as Spain went out to England in the quarter finals. She will be hoping to put her injury troubles behind her and guide Spain to glory. Last season she guided Barcelona to a 7th title as she scored 18 goals and made 15 assists. The previous season she also notched in 18 goals the previous season to further prove how incredible she is.
The dangerous Norwegian

Aga Hegerberg is another hot prospect for the upcoming World Cup. The Norwegian forward Lyon win the Champions League in 2016 where she notched an incredible 13 goals to win the golden boot. Hegerberg also notched in 15 goals for Lyon helping them win the Champions League. She also guided Lyon to another title in 2019. She also won four other Champions League titles with Lyon. To add on to her stellar accomplishments she scored a staggering 53 goals in all competitions in the 2017-18. The Norwegian has also guided her team to several Division one titles. She is definitely one to look out for in the 2023 World Cup.
Smith will have alot to prove this upcoming tournament

Sophie Smith is another USWNT player to look out for in the 2023 World Cup. The uprising star scored 15 goals in all matches. She guided Portland Thorns to a Championship final. She also picked up the MVP award this past season bearing Alex Morgan and Mallory Pugh. Her goals this past season set a personal record and she is definitely going to want to prove herself in Australia & New Zealand. She is definitely a brilliant addition to the USWNT and will hope to help them retain their title.
