Barcelona edges Los Blancos in El Clasico

History behind the fierce rivalry

El Clasico is always a fixture full of passion, tension and many other emotions. This is a rivalry that goes all the way back to the 1950s in the days of Alfredo Di Stefano who played for both Real Madrid and FC Barcelona. One of the most watched rivalries in sports this fixture never fails to produce. These two great rivals met in the Copa del Rey on Thursday. FC Barcelona got the one goal that they needed through a Militao own goal.

FC Barcelona takes the advantage to the Camp Nou

FC Barcelona beat Real Madrid 1-0 to take an advantage to the Camp Nou. It was a good day for FC Barcelona as they got their second straight victory over their bitter rivals. The own goal proved to be the only goal of the match as the Catalans frustrated Los Blancos. Barcelona only managed to register two shots on target in an El Clasico that proved to be quiet. These two teams meet again on March 19th in an El Clasico that could prove to decide the title. This was a much needed win for FC Barcelona as they got knocked out of the Europa League by Manchester United. This win also helps their pursuit for a domestic treble. 

A frustrating night for Real Madrid

Los Blancos encountered a very frustrating night. They dominated possession, had more passes but they could not register a shot on target. It was the first time they could not get a shot on target since 2010. Araujo was at the heart of Real Madrid’s attacking issues and he definitely gave the forwards a frustrating night. Galacticos have two more chances to redeem themselves against Barcelona. Real Madrid’s first one being a clash that could potentially decide La Liga. The second one which is a 2nd leg clash against Barcelona in the Copa Del Rey

What to expect ahead of the second leg

This is a clash that will go right to the wire. Real Madrid will definitely be glad that they are no more away goals in Spanish football. Real Madrid are no strangers to beating FC Barcelona at the Camp Nou and will go all out in the 2ndleg. It is far from unsalvageable as once more football most heated clubs will go toe to toe once more. Also if Barcelona wins then they record their 100th win against Los Blancos and go one off from the all time record.
