The first season Chelsea beat Real Madrid 3-1 on aggregate and the second season Real Madrid beat Chelsea 5-4 on aggregate. Chelsea need to save their season against Real Madrid
Chelsea need this win more desperately than Los Blancos to considering how their season is going. Graham Potter was finally sacked after several months of poor results. They brought in Frank Lampard as their interim manager and he lost his first game back 1-0 to Wolves. Chelsea currently sit in 11th place with eight more games to go. They now have to be sharper than ever and find the same momentum that they beat Dortmund with and try and beat Real Madrid over two legs. It does not get any better as Kante was not in the squad to face Wolves away from home. Frank Lampard hopes that he will be back in time to face Real Madrid.
Can Benzema and Vinicius be the difference for Real Madrid
Real Madrid do not come into this clash in the best form either considering their recent defeat to Villarreal. They had just come from beating FC Barcelona 4-0 at the Camp Nou to secure their first Copa del Rey final in eight years. Real Madrid will be confident that both Benzema and Vinicius Jr have the performance that they had against Liverpool. The duo currently have 43 goals and 11 assists in all competitions and they are proving to be the most devastating duo. Real Madrid are going to want to maximize the advantage of playing the first game and score as many goals and hopefully have a clean sheet.
