England start their World Cup campaign on a high

Stanway happy to have come away with the victory

World Cup Group D is under way as England and Haiti faced off against one another at the Suncorp Stadium in Brisbane. England manage to narrowly beat Haiti 1-0 after a penalty from Georgia Stanway in the first half. The Three Lionesses who are branded by many as the World Cup favorites got their campaign off to a great start as they picked up the three points. Georgia Stanway claimed that they are more than happy to have gotten over the line against the Haitians. Haiti put in a defensive masterclass in their World Cup debut. Haiti fall short in their World Cup debut

The World Cup debutants Haiti put in a resilient performance against England however it was not enough to get anything out of the game. England needed Mary Earps to make some superb saves to deny Haiti from picking up a point. Roselord Borgella was unfortunate not to have gotten on the scoresheet after cutting through the English defense earlier on in the game. Haiti qualified for the tournament after beating Chile thanks to a late winner Dumornay. Haiti still have to face Denmark and China and will hope to bring national pride to their nation. Given the performance against England Haiti will be confident they can pick up a victory against Denmark and China.

World Cup contenders down Haiti

The Three Lionesses will be happy to have picked up the three points in a hard fought win against Haiti. England were given a lifeline as their penalty was allowed to be retaken. Intially Kerly Theus had saved a penalty from Georgia Stanway but stepped off her line too early. The Three Lionesses could have gone 2-0 up but Alessia Russo had her effort saved by Kerly Theus. Overall England struggled to break through Haiti who defended well. England will now turn their attention to their games against Denmark and China as they seek top spot in their World Cup group.
