Germany flying high in the World Cup
Germany took on Morocco at the Melbourne Rectangular Stadium in Melbourne for the first game of Group H. The Germans managed to record a thumping victory over World Cup debutants Morocco. Alexandra Popp managed to get a brace on their World Cup opener as she starts her campaign in style. Morocco have a debut to forget
Morocco had a World Cup debut to forget as they were humbled by Germany on their World Cup debut. The Lionesses of Atlas just simply could not contain Germany and even conceded two own goals. The first own goal came as Elodie Nakkach was trying to clear the ball but it got a touch off of Ait El Haj to make it 4-0. Morocco’s second own goal came as Er-Rmichi failed to clear a German corner. The ball was heading over the line Mrabet ended up getting a touch as she attempted to clear but it was too late. It may just be over for Morocco as bouncing back from a 6-0 defeat to win the rest of your games is no easy task. Morocco still have games against Colombia and South Korea as they aim not to bow out in embarrassing style.
Popp continues her brilliant Euro form
Germany could not have asked for a better start to the World Cup as they were dominant and lethal. So far Germany is the highest scoring in team in the world cup after taking apart Morocco. The Germans opened the scoring after 11 minutes after Popp met Hendrich’s cross to score a header. She then score another header after connecting brilliantly from Buhl cross to double their advantage on the brink of half-time. Then at the start of the second half Buhl added a 3rd goal giving Morocco no chance of coming back. They then got help from Morocco as they scored two own goals in the space of 25 minutes.
