Netherlands cruise to the quarterfinals
Netherlands took on South Africa at Sydney Football Stadium in the Last 16. Holland managed to defeat Banyana Banyana to end their dream World Cup campaign. Thanks to goals from Roord and Beerenstyn Holland. Netherlands also reached their second straight quarterfinals. End of Banyana Banyana’s fairytale run
Banyana Banyana had their fareshare of chances against the Netherlands but their fairytale run has come to an end. Thembi Kgatlana had a few good chances throughout the game against the Netherlands. However she was unable to replicate her heroics against Italy. South Africa were not backed to get to the knockout stages but defied all the odds. Regardless of this result South Africa must pat themselves on the back as it was their first time reaching the knockout stages.
Holland manage to hold off the threat from SA
Netherlands will be happy to have kept a clean sheet against a threatening South Africa. Thembi Kgatlana threated the Dutch on multiple occasions but failed to get past them. Van Domselaar had to be at her very best to secure the win for the Netherlands. South Africa still had hope until Beerenstyn’s strike slipped through the arms of Kaylin Swart. Holland will now go on to face a free scoring Spanish team. So far Spain has netted 13 goals in four matches. Spain is the second highest scoring team behind Japan.
