Sweden advance to the quarterfinals

USWNT wasteful in their chances
USWNT managed to break down a stubborn Sweden but it just did not seem to be enough. At the end of the day what really counts is slotting the ball home. However USWNT failed to do that against the Swedes. Smith had a chance to send her team through but sent her penalty wide of the post. It is a game they feel they should have won but when you do not take your chances in football you get punished. USWNT are lucky to even be in the knockout stages as Portugal had the chance to knock them out. It will also come as a major disappointment as they arrived at the tournament with so much promise and were the favorites as well.
Sweden to face a much more stern test
The Scandinavians managed to pull of one of the most iconic victories in World Cup history. Knocking out the champions for two consecutive years is no easy feet. The Swedes will also be counting their lucky stars as USWNT had the chance to knock them out had Smith converted her penalty kick. The Swedes will now go on to face Japan which will be a much more stern test. Japan have netted 14 goal’s and only conceded once and will be much more lethal against Sweden than the USWNT. If the Swedes can eliminate USWNT they will be seen as tournament favorites alongside England.
