Spain get the better of Sweden
Spain took on Sweden in the semi finals of the World Cup for a place in the final. La Roja managed to get the better of the Swedes as they reached the final of the World Cup. The last 10 minutes were full of goals which proved to be a nervy affair for La Roja as Sweden had gotten back in the game. La Roja make history
Spain made history by reaching the very first final. The furthest La Roja has ever gone in the World Cup is the Round of 16. They managed to defy the odds and qualify for the Last 8, the semi finals and the final. Spain had a number of good chances to open the scoring but they had failed to find the back of the net. They then finally found the back of the net through Paralluelo who capitalized on a Sweden mistake and slotted the ball home. Spain then got a scare as 7 minutes later Sweden found an equalizer. To add on to an action packed game Olga Carmona fooled everyone by looking like she would cross but ended up scoring. La Roja will now go on to face England as they will be going for their first ever World Cup victory.
Sweden put up a good fight
It was a heartbreaking loss for Sweden as they had gotten back in the game only to concede a late goal against Spain. Despite a lot of fight and desire from the Swedes it was not to be for them against Spain. It is the end of a remarkable campaign for Sweden who defeated the two time champions USWNT on penalties. They even stunned Japan who they were underdogs against in the quarterfinals. Sweden will now go onto face Australia in the third place play off. They will aim to win that match as a consolation and reach third place for the second consecutive time.
