Manchester United and PSG disappointing in Champions League

Manchester

https://www.futbolmundial.com/ Champions League group stage has now reached its conclusion. Over these last few months we have seen lots of surprises, drama and heartbreaks.

They are always teams that arrive with such high expectation to Europe’s elite but end up coming short. This however is what makes this competition so special that the underdogs can always upset the big names.

Futbol Mundial gives you the teams that arrived with high expectations but failed to live up to those expectations.

Without a doubt the first team you think of when you think of disappointment is Manchester United. Manchester United were tipped by many to atleast come behind Bayern in 2nd place considering all the signings they had made.

The Glazers had brought in Hojlund, Amrabat, Onana and Mount with the expectation they would go far. Despite Hojlund’s five goals Manchester United were unable to get the results they needed to go to the next round. From dropping numerous leads to Onana blunders it just did not seem to be for the three time Champions League winners.

Despite Paris Saint Germain qualifying for the Last 16 they have been far too disappointing in Europe.

Many could even argue that they are lucky to even be at this stage. Perhaps even of they had not scored the penalty against Newcastle things may have been very different. To put into perspective how close Paris Saint Germain were to a group stage exit Les Parisiens were in 3rd place at half-time. But an equalizer from Zaire Emery as well as a win on Milan’s side they were able to make their 11th consecutive knockout.

Quarterfinalists Benfica is definitely one of the biggest disappointments considering where they went last season. The Portuguese giants brought back Di Maria but that still never seemed to be enough to qualify for the Last 16.
