Inter Milan Knock Out Barcelona in 13-Goal Semifinal Epic to Reach Champions League Final

Inter edge Barcelona in a 13 goal thriller on aggregate which sees the Italian Giants progress to their second final in three years. The Nerazurri had started with a strong foothold on the game only for Barcelona’s attacking efforts to pay off in the second half. This defeat also brings an end to Barcelona’s treble hopes and extends their drought without a Champions League. Inter will now turn their attention to their game on the weekend against Torino as they try to salvage the Serie A title.

Inter Milan will be ecstatic after defeating the favorites Barcelona 4-3 to reach the final. A couple of weeks ago it was looking as if their whole season was crumbling before their eyes with three consecutive defeats. Now they will be brimming with confidence with hopes of winning the Champions League for the first time in 15 years. Inter’s win can be largely credited to their ability to exploit Barcelona’s highline with their quick counter attacks. The Italians were hanging by a thread in the final minutes of the game but managed to grind out a win at the end. Their resilience to get back in the game after seeming out of the contest proved to be the difference between the sides.

As good as Inter’s defense is it is always difficult to keep out a high scoring team like Barcelona. Just like the first leg Dumfries caused Barcelona’s fullbacks many problems as the Dutchman was involved in 5 of the 7 goals Inter scored. Defensive Duo also struggled to contain Thuram who gave them issues with his ability to get in dangerous positions and run at their backline. Once again Inter struggled to contain Yamal who continuously ran at their defense and created chances. Acerbi turned himself into a striker as he threw himself forward to net the equalizing goal that would take Inter to overtime

Barcelona will now turn their sights to the El Clasico after a disappointing Champions League exit. Despite their overwhelming dominance over the two legs they just could not get over the line against Inter. The Catalans had also taken the lead against Inter but they failed to hang on until the final whistle which saw Acerbi grab an equalizer. Balde and Kounde also proved to be major absentees for the Blaugrana as they are good going forward and also defensively.
