Man City loses their 2nd consecutive FA Cup final

Man City fails to take something positive from the season as the former England Champions lose to Crystal Palace. The FA Cup was a chance for them to take something away from what has already been a difficult season for the Cityzens. It is also their first trophyless season since Pep Guardiola’s debut campaign at the club. Crystal Palace on the other hand managed to claim their first trophy in the club’s history.

Palace overcome the champions to win their first silverware

What better way for Crystal Palace to claim their first trophy than by beating the four consecutive Premier League champions Man City. Their win will also see them compete in European competition for the first time since the 1998-99 season almost thirty years ago. Crystal Palace will certainly have their keeper Dean Henderson to thank after he came up with a big save to deny City a chance to get back in the game. Crystal Palace’s compact defensive shape also played a key role in keeping Man City from scoring. The Glazers were also able to expose the loose space they found through the midfield which made getting in the final third easier.

The Blues hoping to turn things around next season

It is inevitable that is that Man City will be a busy team this transfer window. An aging squad a and a need for a new right back since Walker departed in January have been the primary cause for their struggles. Out of all the positions the one that needs to be revamped the most is the midfield. Palace found it easy to run through City’s midfield without much effort further emphasizing a need for reinforcement. Key midfielders such as Silva, Gundogan and De Bruyne are all 31 and over proving that City cannot rely on some of the names that made the club successful. With key playmaker De Bruyne leaving this summer getting a replacement for him is certainly a top priority for them. Many reports had linked the Blues with Wirtz but have since pulled up the race after feeling the fee was too high.
