During this intense and highly anticipated transfer window, a few USMNT gems managed to secure big moves to major clubs. Their performance ahead of the 2026 World Cup will be crucial in securing a place on the national team. The likes of Gio Reyna, Malik Tillman, and Johnny Cardoso all secured moves to some of Europe’s biggest and most promising clubs. These moves are expected to further elevate their status in the football world and serve as a major boost to their careers.
UCL Football for Cardoso
Johnny Cardoso completed a move to Los Rojiblancos earlier this summer and will be crucial to Atletico’s midfield. Cardoso had a successful spell at Los Verdiblancos, where he was at the heart of their midfield and a key part of their engine room. Cardoso will have big shoes to fill, as he will be tasked with filling the void left by De Paul. The USMNT youngster is one of the most promising midfielders in the world and will be key to the USMNT’s chances of going far in the World Cup.
Can Gio Reyna Return to the USM?
For Gio Reyna, a move to Monchengladbach could potentially bring fresh opportunities. Struggles with injuries and limited playing time at Borussia Dortmund have motivated Reyna to seek a career revival at his new club. Some football experts could potentially see this as a downgrade for an emerging talent, considering Monchengladbach’s challenges in recent seasons. However, his addition is expected to be crucial, and the young USMNT star will be tasked with guiding Monchengladbach back to a European place. With the World Cup next summer approaching, his performances will be pivotal, and Pochettino is likely to keep a close eye on him.
From PSV to Bayer Leverkusen
Tilman, one of the latest emerging talents for the USMNT, has completed a major move from PSV to Leverkusen. The timing could not be better for Tillman to join a major club ahead of the new World Cup next summer. After the departure of Wirtz this summer, Tilman—possessing many similar attributes to the German—will be asked to orchestrate attacks. Nonetheless, matching Wirtz’s impact could be a significant expectation. Leverkusen, facing a coaching dilemma after recently sacking Ten Hag, will need the right coach to unlock Tilman’s full potential.
