Tottenham set to smash their transfer record twice in one window! This time, it’s Sandro Tonali.

Tottenham are set to break their transfer record for a second time this summer! Spurs have agreed a total package of £100 million (including add-ons) with Newcastle United for Italian midfielder Sandro Tonali. This comes only one day after agreeing an £85 million deal for Mateus Fernandes from West Ham United, marking a new double pivot for a combined £185 million.

Once Tonali is officially announced, he will become Tottenham’s sixth signing of the summer window. After finishing 17th for two seasons in a row, this is a sign of real intent from the club to get them back into contention for major titles and European football.

Tonali started his playing career at Brescia in Italy, after coming through the club’s youth system. The Italian midfielder made his debut for the club in Serie B at only 17 years of age. He featured 19 times in his first professional season, scoring twice and providing two assists.

In the 2018/19 season, he helped Brescia gain promotion to Serie A, where he was a regular starter throughout the entire campaign. In 2021, he made a big jump and joined his boyhood club, AC Milan. Just two years later, he was sold to Newcastle United in a deal worth €70 million, making him the most expensive Italian player of all time. Fast forward three years, and he has now broken his own record for the highest transfer fee for an Italian player with his move to Tottenham.

As the transfer window approached, it was well-known that Spurs aimed to make significant investments in their midfield, but few fans could have anticipated such a large sum being spent. The squad was not lacking depth in the central midfield positions, but these new signings have shown that the club is determined to upgrade to prevent a repeat of the two previous seasons.

There is no sign of Tottenham slowing down either, with up to three more signings expected this summer. It is expected that the focus will now be on the forward line. The priorities are a striker and a left winger, and two names being mentioned are Eli Kroupi Junior (AFC Bournemouth) and Savinho (Manchester City). Any deal for Kroupi is rumoured to be upwards of £90 million, with Savinho being valued between £50-60 million.

It seems that Tottenham’s shopping spree shows no signs of slowing down.
