Manchester City rejected Barcelona’s initial offer for Rodrigo Hernández, but negotiations between the two clubs will continue in the coming days with the aim of reaching an agreement for the Spanish midfielder.
Barcelona entered the race for Rodri in earnest on Thursday, after the player reached an agreement with the Catalan club, pending the English team’s approval of his transfer.
Barcelona’s initial offer is reported to have been around 50 million euros, consisting of a fixed amount and performance-based bonuses. However, Manchester City decided to reject it, although Barça remains confident that the club may change its stance.
One factor working in Barcelona’s favor is that Rodri’s contract expires next summer, and he could become a free agent. For this reason, the Blaugrana are looking to move forward with talks over the next few days to finalize the deal as soon as possible.
Monday will be an important date, as the Spanish internationals will join Barcelona’s first team to begin preparations for the new season.
Meanwhile, Rodri, 30, remains on vacation in Ibiza with his family, waiting to find out where he will play next season.
Real Madrid is still a possibility, although the player’s priority would be to continue his career with Barcelona.
The Blaugrana have already finalized the signings of Anthony Gordon, Karem Adeyemi, and Jesse Bissaku, and are still hoping to secure the return of Joao Cancelo.
Barcelona is also preparing another bid for Julián Álvarez, a forward they are targeting as a replacement for Robert Lewandowski.
