The Spanish Super Cup will have a new home in 2027. The tournament will be held in Istanbul, Turkey, from February 2 to 7, in an edition that will mark its first visit to the country and will take place at the Atatürk Olympic Stadium.
FC Barcelona, Real Madrid, Real Sociedad, and Atlético Madrid will be the four participants in the competition, which will temporarily leave Saudi Arabia, its uninterrupted host since 2022.
The change is due to the fact that Saudi Arabia will be hosting the Asian Cup during the same dates. As a result, the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) selected Istanbul following a negotiation process in which seven proposals from different parts of the world were evaluated.
The 2027 edition will also feature Barcelona, which will enter the tournament as the defending champion. The team coached by Hansi Flick won last year’s Super Cup after defeating Real Madrid 3-2 in Jeddah.
The move to Turkey will, however, be temporary. The RFEF confirmed that the Spanish Super Cup will return to Saudi Arabia in 2028.
The federation also emphasized that the agreement reached will ensure that the economic benefits generated by the tournament for Spanish soccer are maintained—funds that go directly to nearly 1,000 clubs across various divisions, both men’s and women’s.
With Istanbul as the new host city, the Super Cup will make its international debut in 2027 and will once again pit four of Spanish soccer’s top clubs against each other.
