It took Ferran Torres just one Champions League match with Paris Saint-Germain to make his mark in the club’s history, scoring a hat trick in his debut in Europe’s top competition with the Parisian club in their 6-1 rout of Slovan Bratislava,
History made by the World Cup winner
Torres thus became the first player in PSG history to score three goals in his first Champions League match. He is also the first player to score on his European debut with the club since Neymar and Kylian Mbappé did so against Celtic on September 12, 2017.
The 26-year-old forward arrived this summer from Barcelona. Following a big summer, PSG—the reigning European champion—bolstered its star-studded attack with his signing. Torres signed a five-year contract with the French team.
His arrival in Paris has had an immediate impact. The Spaniard also became just the second player in PSG history to score at least five goals in his first four matches across all competitions. The only other player to have achieved this was Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
The forward also arrives in Paris fresh off his recent heroics for Spain in the World Cup final against Argentina. In July, he scored the goal in extra time that secured victory for the Spanish national team. It was his only goal in that tournament. The player himself claimed that the goal had been “scored by 47 million people,” referring to Spain’s population.
A new chapter for Ferran
During his time with Barcelona, Torres played in 207 games and scored 65 goals. His best season came last year, when he scored 21 goals in all competitions.
In his European debut with PSG, Torres also shared the spotlight once again with Ousmane Dembélé, with whom he played briefly during his time at Barcelona. Dembélé opened the scoring for the Parisian side against Slovan Bratislava and also assisted Torres in each half.
Ferran Torres’s adjustment to Paris couldn’t have gotten off to a better start: an all-time record, a hat trick, and a performance that confirms his rapid impact with the European champions.
