A look back at the World Cup, quarter finals

World Cup

We look back at the best highlights from the quarter finals of the World Cup. They were many great moments and goals as well as many shocks.

They were teams that were favored to qualify for the next round but did not manage to make it. This has proved to be one of the most unpredictable world cup and yet again the quarter final never disappointed. Futbol Mundial brings you the best moments of the quarter final as well as the biggest shocks.

Croatia vs. Brazil, the best game on quarter finals of the World Cup

Croacia 2 800x534 - A look back at the World Cup, quarter finals
Neymar Jr. and Brazil gets nothing in this World Cup.

Croatia vs Brazil was one game that looked surely in Brazil’s favor. However with this World Cup we have seen many shocks. The game had gone into overtime with Neymar scoring but with three minutes to go Petkovic scored the equalizer. Once Croatia went into penalties they felt confident and knowing that they are a team that has won their last four penalty shootouts.

Brazil were favored to win the tournament and after their display against South Korea many would tip them to be favorites. Croatia managed to frustrate them with their midfield and that would be enough to see them through to the next round. It was heartbreaking considering it was the last World Cup for the likes of Neymar and Thiago Silva. As good as Neymar is it would be disappointing that he has never won a World Cup.

Netherlands vs. Argentina, pure drama

Argentina 2 800x529 - A look back at the World Cup, quarter finals
Argentinian players mocking the dutch footballers after the game.

Netherlands vs Argentina was a game that could have gone either way. Netherlands were able of picking up the pockets of space that Argentina left open against Australia. Messi provided a monstrous assist for Molina to give Argentina the lead. Argentina were feeling confident once they got the second but never count out the dutch. They have strong and tall players like Weghorst who managed to score a header which got Netherlands back in the game. They then played a sneaky free-kick into Weghorst who finished the ball to send it to extra time. Argentina surprisingly did not lose momentum and took charge during extra time with Enzo hitting the outside of the post. Argentina won the game on penalties to go to the next round.

Morocco vs. Portugal, bye bye Ronaldo

Crisitano Ronado cried after the against Morocco, maybe his last in a World Cup.

Morocco vs Portugal was a game that made history. Morocco became the first African team to reach the semis. With three minutes to go En-Nesyri headed the ball into the net to give Morocco the lead. It ended Portugal & Ronaldo’s dream of winning a first ever World Cup. Morocco had stunned Spain, Belgium & now Portugal. Nobody had tipped the Atlas Lions to be the World Cup dark horses but they went against the odds. Now they face France in the next game hoping to advance to the finals. Portugal had gone into this tie as favorites as they beat Switzerland 6-1. However in football especially in this World Cup nobody can predict the final outcome
