World Cup biggest disappointments

World Cup flops of the tournament

World Cup so far brings you the teams that produced the biggest disappointments. These teams were tipped by many fans to go all the way but fumbled. Germany, USWNT and Brazil all had high expectations but failed to live up to the billing. The two time champions Germany were knocked out for the first time ever in the group stage. Whereas Brazil had qualified for the group stage six consecutive times. Futbol Mundial brings you the teams that failed to produce this World Cup campaign.

Popp fails to lead Germany past their group

Germany had started off their World Cup campaign showing a lot of promise. Round 1 of the group stage they had become the team to win with the highest scoreline as well they beat Morocco. Popp was proving to be lethal as she helped Germany take apart Morocco. However they were then shocked by Colombia losing 2-1. Germany then faced a must win game against South Korea. However it just was not to be for them as they drew stalemate with South Korea. After reaching the Euro 2022 final they were expected to atleast go past the Last 16.

Brazil fails at the World Cup

Brazil got knocked in the group stage for the third time in their whole history. Selecao was another team who arrived at the tournament with a lot of promise. They opened up their World Cup campaign with an entertaining 4-0 win over Panama. Ary Borges picked up the first hattrick of the World Cup which was her debut. They then lost against a France team that needed a win after being held by the Reggae Girlz. Then they were also held to a draw by the Reggae Girlz which was a game they needed to win. By many Brazilian fans standards they disappointed last World Cup and were hoping to go one better than last time.

US on the verge of a major embarrassment

USWNT may be through to the Last 16 of the World Cup but only by the smallest margins. Capeta’s strike in injury time was only a few centimeters away from helping Portugal reach the knockout stages of the World Cup. USWNT always manages to reach at least a top four position but that may be different this time around. The USWNT arrived in Oceania with so much promise with star Sophie Smith being tipped to steal the charts. They struggled against the Netherlands and they failed to take their chances against Portugal. If they are to beat an impressive Swedish team they will need their star lady Smith to be on top of her game. So far based on their form they arrive in this clash as underdogs but the World Cup is all about upsets.
