World Cup underdogs ready to cause an upset

World Cup always has its dark horses every tournament. This edition of the Womens World Cup we look at the teams that are most likely to pull of a shock.

They were many teams in the group stage that proved that they are capable of knocking down the top teams. So the real question is how far will they be able to go and could they perhaps even go all the way. These teams are Nigeria, Jamaica and South Africa.

This is football and anything can happen especially in the World Cup with teams giving it their all. Futbol Mundial brings you the teams most likely to cause an upset.

Nigeria manage to pull through in a difficult group

Nigeria opened their campaign by holding Canada to a 0-0 draw at the Melbourne Rectangular Stadium in their World Cup opener. Nnadozie proved herself to be the decisive figure of that game. They then stunned the hosts Australia with a 3-2 victory thanks to a Oshoala victory. Nigeria will now go onto face England in their Last 16 World Cup game. They will go into this match knowing that the game is not over until the final whistle. Nigeria will arrive with lots of motivation knowing they arrived in the Last 16 against the odds with nobody backing them.

Reggae Girlz will have nothing to lose

Jamaica’s biggest achievement is denying two top World Cup contenders to a 0-0 draw. Swaby’s single goal seemed to be enough to see the Reggae Girlz through. Their first victory in the World Cup against Panama proved to be the most decisive in their history. They now face the difficult task of taking on Colombia. They will feel that if they can take points away from France and Brazil that anything will be possible against Colombia. Linda Caicedo will prove to be a big threat against the Reggae Girlz and so far the 18 year old has netted two goals.

SA arrived in this World Cup with something to prove

South Africa has had a World Cup campaign to remember. They nearly beat Sweden in their World Cup opener as Magaia gave them the lead only for them to be defeated in the last minute. South Africa then failed to maintain their lead against Argentina as they lost a 2-0 goal lead. They then got a memorable victory over Italy which sent them through thanks to a Kgatlana goal in the 90th minute. They take on Netherlands tomorrow and they are more than capable of pulling of a win. This is their second ever appearance and to achieve what they have achieved this campaign is phenomenal.
