Arsenal is one the teams with more followers on Instagram 28.4 million

New data has revealed the Premier League teams with the biggest following on Instagram. The research conducted by the Japanese iGaming site 6takarakuji analysed Instagram to find out how many followers the official Premier League teams accounts have and how many users interacted with the accounts. In fifth place is Arsenal, with 28.4 million Instagram followers.

Manchester United topped the list of Premier League teams with the biggest following on Instagram, with 63.3 million followers. To put that into perspective, Manchester United’s Instagram account has 2,261% more followers than Newcastle United, who landed tenth place on the list.  

In second place is Manchester City, which has 50.2 million Instagram followers. Manchester City’s most popular post if from the 13th of December, which gained 1.7 million likes and features manager Pep Guardiola and Micah Hamilton and the caption “From ballboy to @championsleague goalscorer!”.  

In third place is Liverpool, with 43.9 million followers. Liverpool gains an average of 217,600 likes per Instagram post, 76,400 more than Manchester City’s average likes per post.   

Chelsea comes in fourth place with 41.5 million Instagram followers. Chelsea also gained the second most likes per post after Manchester United at 225,700 likes on average.

Spurs followed behind Arsenal in sixth place, with 16.5 million Instagram followers. 

In seventh place is West Ham United, with 4.2 million Instagram followers. West Ham United gained an average of 29,800 likes per post, with their most popular post of welcoming 23-year-old Mohammed Kudus to the club gaining 248,000 likes and 2,900 comments.   

Aston Villa is in eighth place, with 3.7 million Instagram followers and just after that is Everton, with an equivalent of three million Instagram followers.  

Finally, rounding off the list in tenth place is Newcastle United, with 2.68 million Instagram followers.   

At the other end of the scale, Luton Town, Brentford, and Sheffield United are the top three Premier League teams with the lowest number of Instagram followers.      

Content manager of 6takarakuji, Sayaka Yamamoto, commented on the findings: «The Premier League is the biggest league in the world, so it’s interesting to see which teams have the biggest following on Instagram, as football fans are renowned for being very loyal and passionate to their club. It’s amazing to see that the 20 teams in the league have more than 200 million followers combined, which reflects how popular the Premier League is. It’s also fascinating to note that although Burnley ranked as having the lowest number of followers, for a town of a population of 94,700, it is still an incredibly well-supported club.»
