Estevao (Chelsea) and Lamine Yamal (FC Barcelona) are both currently injury doubts for the World Cup due to hamstring injuries, with less than two months until the opening games for Brazil and Spain.

Estevao left Saturday’s match vs. Manchester United in the first half with a suspected hamstring injury, and sources briefed on the injury believe it could be a grade four hamstring injury. A grade 4 hamstring injury is a complete tear of the muscle and often requires 3 to 5 months to recover. The consensus at the moment is that Estevao is targeting a World Cup return, despite the potential severity of his injury. Brazil opens group play on June 13 versus Morocco at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey.

Lamine Yamal, who has played 45 games for FC Barcelona this season, left Wednesday’s game vs. Celta Vigo after injuring his hamstring while converting a penalty. Lamine Yamal has officially been ruled out for the season and will be missing the pivotal Clasico match against Real Madrid on May 10. FC Barcelona currently sits at the top of La Liga and will now be without their star winger for the remainder of the season. The club’s official statement states that Yamal is expected to be available for the World Cup. Spain opens up their group play on June 15 vs. Cape Verde at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Georgia.

With less than two months to go until the World Cup begins, any long-term injury can be crucial to whether a player participates in this summer’s tournament. Mexico opens the tournament against South Africa on Thursday, June 11.
