Reigning champions Paris Saint-Germain face their toughest battle of the season yet as they host Bayern Munich in the first leg of the UEFA Champions League semifinal. After a tough test against AS Monaco in the play-off round (5-4 aggregate), the French team cruised past Chelsea in the Round of 16 (8-2 agg.) and Liverpool in the quarter-finals (4-0 agg.). Bayern Munich began their knockout stage with a dominating 10-2 aggregate victory over Atalanta in the Round of 16 before narrowly passing by Real Madrid (6-4 agg.) in the quarter-finals.
With both teams dominating their domestic campaigns, all focus now moves to this Champions League duel, with the second legs taking place next week. The winner of this match will play the winner of Atletico Madrid vs. Arsenal in the final on May 30th.
With the first leg taking place in Paris, PSG are currently listed as +130 favorites, with Bayern narrowly behind at +175.
Here are my official Champions League picks and analysis for PSG vs. Bayern Munich:
PSG 1.5 Total Goals (-154)
PSG has been a high-goal-scoring team, scoring at least two goals in all six UCL knockout games this season. Including league fixtures, PSG has scored multiple goals in eight of the last nine games. From a Bayern perspective, they have shown vulnerabilities on the defensive side and conceded three goals to Real Madrid in a do-or-die second leg just two weeks ago.
Over 3.5 Goals (-106)
These are arguably the two best offensive teams in world football at the moment, and there is no reason for this not to be a heavyweight matchup, exchanging big moments. With the offensive power of players such as Harry Kane, Michael Olise, Ousmane Dembele, and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, I like the odds of both teams running up the scoreline.
Michael Olise to Score or Assist (+100)
Michael Olise has been one of the most in-form players in Europe this season. Olise has had a goal or assist in five of his last six Bundesliga games, with a goal or assist being registered every 72 minutes in that time frame. The French winger already has 5 G/A in three UCL knockout games. He’s a player made for the big moments this season.
