Brazilian star Neymar Jr. unavailable for Friday’s match vs. Haiti

Alarm bells are still ringing in Brazil. Neymar will not be available for the Canarinha’s second match at the 2026 World Cup, after the Brazilian Football Confederation confirmed that the forward has been ruled out due to a persistent calf injury.

The Brazilian star will not travel to Philadelphia with the rest of the team to face Haiti this Friday and will remain in New Jersey, where he will continue the final phase of his recovery under medical supervision.

“He will remain in New Jersey to optimize the final phase of his recovery process,” the Brazilian federation reported in an official statement.

The news once again draws attention to the physical condition of the Santos player, who arrived at the World Cup without having fully recovered from the injury he suffered on May 17 during a match with his club.

Brazil is waiting for Neymar, but won’t take any risks

At 34, Neymar is facing what could be his fourth and final World Cup. However, muscle discomfort has limited his participation since before the tournament began.

The forward returned to training on Tuesday, performing low-intensity physical exercises. A day later, he partially rejoined the team practice, where he was greeted with applause from his teammates. Even so, he has not been able to complete a full session with the rest of the group.

The team, led by Carlo Ancelotti, prefers to proceed with caution and avoid any setback, especially after Brazil’s lackluster debut in the competition.

A Doubtful Debut Without a Win

Brazil began its Group C campaign with a 1-1 draw against Morocco, a result that left more questions than answers for a team accustomed to starting as the favorite.

Vinícius Júnior’s goal prevented a loss, but the team’s overall performance drew criticism and reignited the debate over Neymar’s inclusion on the roster.

In Brazil, many fans and analysts questioned whether the national team’s all-time leading scorer should be part of the squad without being 100 percent physically fit. Others believe that his experience and leadership fully justify his presence, even if he needs more time to recover.

When might Neymar return?

For now, the Brazilian Football Confederation has not set a specific date for the forward’s return. Everything will depend on how the injury progresses and on the medical evaluations to be conducted in the coming days.

The only certainty is that Neymar will not play against Haiti and that Brazil will have to seek its first victory of the tournament without its star player on the field.

Meanwhile, anticipation continues to grow. Even though Neymar remains sidelined, millions of fans are hoping to see him return soon and lead the Canarinha in their quest for their long-awaited sixth World Cup title.
