Bradley Barcola has been linked with a transfer to Liverpool all summer, and the talks have amplified following the UEFA Super Cup. The French winger logged zero minutes in PSG’s first competitive match of the season versus Aston Villa.
According to Fabrizio Romano, the move has progressed, and the interest is mutual.
“Barcola wants to go to Liverpool. There is no doubt about that. Personal terms are almost in place. It’s not a problem. Barcola is attracted by Liverpool, Liverpool want Barcola and the player wants the move. Liverpool and PSG are in direct club-to-club talks. There are daily conversations and negotiations. Now it is a financial matter — it depends on how much Liverpool are prepared to pay. The biggest news tonight is PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi confirming Barcola’s future is still open. They are discussing and negotiating. So the deal is ON, but it is not a done deal yet. And for the first time, PSG have officially confirmed that Barcola is not untouchable.”
Barcola finished last season with 13 goals and 4 assists across 48 total appearances. While his output was not the best, Barcola offers an exciting and versatile profile to a Liverpool looking to reidentify themselves following last season’s mediocre finish. In terms of this transfer, the biggest issue will be PSG and Liverpool finding common ground on the fee. First reports indicated a potential fee rising to €170m, but the Merseyside club have no intention of paying that price.
Liverpool would definitely benefit from having Barcola available before their Premier League opener against Newcastle on August 23.
