Kylian Mbappe led Real Madrid with two goals as Real Madrid secured a much-needed three points against Rayo Vallecano to stay within touching distance of FC Barcelona in La Liga.
First half goal galore for Madrid
Saturday’s action took just 13 minutes to truly kick off, with left-back Carreras taken down in the box, awarding Real Madrid an early penalty. Kylian Mbappe was, of course, on penalty duties, and it was a simple shot for the French striker for his first of the night.
Alvaro Carreras’ presence in the match continued just four minutes after Madrid’s opener, with this time the left back getting on the scoresheet. A ball into the midfield towards Lejeune was too strong, and the center-back’s attempt to play it to his keeper went completely wrong. Mbappe pounced on the opportunity and touched it into the path of Carreras, before the Spanish full-back slotted the ball home to double Madrid’s lead.
Jude Bellingham entered the action with ten minutes left in the first half. The English midfielder received a simple ball from Vinicius Jr. and hit an unmarked shot from just inside the box.
A quieter second half
Rayo pulled one back just six minutes into the second half. After a botched pass from Rudiger to Vini Jr., the ball was intercepted and Sergio Camello picked it up before slipping it underneath Courtois. While Rayo Vallecano continued to play well throughout the second half, they were unable to get another goal on the scoresheet and truly challenge Real Madrid.
A minute into stoppage time, Kylian Mbappe made the final blow of the match with a right-footed strike across the net through the hands of Audero.
