After his death was confirmed on Tuesday, November 3, clubs, soccer players, and figures from various sports took to social media to pay tribute to the player and send messages of support to his family, teammates, and loved ones.

The 30-year-old Spanish soccer player had been hospitalized after suffering a severe collision with goalkeeper Jesús Owono during Monday’s match between Tenerife and FC Andorra. The incident occurred in the final minutes of the game and required emergency medical attention for the forward.

The news was confirmed by the Tenerife club in a statement expressing its deep sorrow over the loss of one of its members. From that moment on, expressions of solidarity began to pour in from both within and outside Spanish soccer.

Gerard Piqué and FC Andorra Pay Their Respects to the Forward

One of the messages that drew the most attention was from Gerard Piqué, president and majority shareholder of FC Andorra, the team that faced Tenerife in the match where the accident occurred.

“I’m so sorry with all my heart. Rest in peace, Jesús,” wrote the former Barcelona player, who also kept a close eye on the player’s condition after the incident.

For its part, FC Andorra published a message expressing its devastation over what had happened and sending its condolences to De Miguel’s family, teammates, friends, and the entire Tenerife club.

The rival club made it clear that the game’s outcome had taken a back seat in the face of news that shocked everyone involved in the match.

Mbappé, Pedri, and Sergio Ramos also express their sadness

The reactions were not limited to Spanish teams. Various figures from the international soccer world also joined in with messages of condolence.

Kylian Mbappé shared a few brief words to express his sadness: “So much sadness, there are no words. RIP.”

Barcelona player Pedri, a native of the Canary Islands, also expressed his shock and sent his condolences to the striker’s family, as well as to the entire CD Tenerife community.

For his part, Sergio Ramos described the day as a very sad one for the soccer family, while other clubs such as Real Madrid, Barcelona, and Atlético de Madrid posted messages of condolence.

Rafa Nadal and Pau Gasol Join the Tribute

The tragedy also reached other sports. Tennis player Rafa Nadal shared a message expressing his sorrow over the player’s death and sending his love to his family and friends.

“What a terrible loss… All my love and a very warm hug to the family and friends of Jesús de Miguel during this difficult time. Also to everyone at CD Tenerife. My heart goes out to you,” he wrote.

Former basketball player Pau Gasol also wanted to express his support, summing up his feelings in a single sentence: “How sad… there are no words.”

They were joined by badminton champion Carolina Marín and canoeist Saúl Craviotto, who also sent their condolences.

The RFEF and UEFA Announce Tributes

Sports organizations also responded to the news. The Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) expressed its deep sorrow and announced the suspension of matches scheduled for Tuesday, including games in the Copa del Rey, the Copa de la Reina, and the Spanish U-21 national team.

UEFA, for its part, announced that a minute of silence will be observed at all matches in its competitions this week to honor the memory of the soccer player.

Its president, Aleksander Čeferin, also expressed his sadness and sent his thoughts to the family, teammates, and everyone at CD Tenerife.
