On Sunday, Chivas and Pumas faced off at Akron Stadium in one of the most exciting matches of Matchday 8 of the 2026 Apertura tournament of the Liga BBVA MX, which resulted in a thrilling 3-0 victory for the Rebaño Sagrado.
An instant start
The Rebaño Sagrado came out determined from the very start to take the lead, and in the 3rd minute, Santiago Sandoval scored an early goal with a header that left Keylor Navas with no chance.
Pumas responded with a goal by Juninho in the 5th minute, but it was disallowed due to a handball in the buildup. The Rojiblancos continued to dominate the match, but Pumas gradually found their footing and began pushing forward in search of the equalizer. Pedro Vite came close to scoring in the 32nd minute with a free kick, and Uriel Antuna nearly scored from midfield in the 44th minute, but on both occasions Raúl Tala Rangel made the right saves to prevent the equalizer.
The final blows came in the second half
Chivas went into halftime with a narrow lead over Pumas, and in the second half, the momentum of the match remained in their favor. Santiago Sandoval combined brilliantly with Ángel Sepúlveda in the 56th minute and fired a spectacular shot into the top corner to score the second goal.
Guadalajara controlled the rest of the match and secured the three points without any trouble, extending their unbeaten streak in Liga BBVA MX to seven consecutive games. Following the result, Chivas now sit on top of the Liga MX table with 17 points after eight games.
