The fourth gameweek of the Premier League season has come to an end, with plenty of impressive individual performances across the weekend. Brighton put five past Coventry, Arsenal continued their perfect start with a win away at Sunderland, while Manchester City came out on top in a heated Manchester derby. The weekend was then rounded off by Leeds putting four past Newcastle at Elland Road, with Daniel Farke’s side putting in one of the best performances of the season so far.
Here is my Premier League Team of the Week for Gameweek 4.
GK – David Raya – Arsenal – 9.0/10
Raya was one of the big reasons Arsenal left The Stadium of Light unscathed with all three points. The Spaniard saved a penalty from Enzo Le Fee during the game and produced several important saves to keep Sunderland out. Another clean sheet for Arsenal and a huge individual performance from their goalkeeper yet again. Raya seems by far and away the best goalkeeper in the Premier League.
RB – Jayden Bogle – Leeds – 9.0/10
Bogle was excellent against Newcastle and was a persistent threat down the right-hand side. He scored Leeds’ second goal after a Calvert-Lewin header skimmed off the defender’s head and into the Newcastle net. A brilliant performance in another huge win for Leeds.
CB – Lewis Dunk – Brighton – 9.0/10
Dunk produced one of the best moments of the weekend with a screamer from outside the box in Brighton’s 5-0 win over Coventry. The Brighton captain also helped his side keep a clean sheet as they completely dominated the game. A center-back scoring a goal like that on top of keeping a clean sheet in a 5-0 demolition is more than enough to get him into this week’s team
CB – Murillo – Nottingham Forest – 8.0/10
Murillo put in a solid performance as Forest picked up a huge 2-1 win away at Aston Villa. Forest’s defensive work was a big reason they were able to secure their first win at Villa Park in 32 years. The Brazilian center-back helped Forest deal with Villa’s attacking threat and was physically immaculate when it came to his duels.
LB – Maxim De Cuyper – Brighton – 8.5/10
De Cuyper put in yet another impressive performance for the Seagulls, picking up yet another goal contribution. Brighton cruised to a 5-0 victory, with the Belgian heavily involved going forward in his temporary left wing role. The Seagulls had plenty of players who could have made this team, but De Cuyper fits in that left back spot in my team even if he played further forward on this occasion.
RM – Belloumi – Hull City – 8.5/10
Belloumi was one of Hull’s best players yet again, causing problems for the Blues defence throughout. His pace and direct approach gave Chelsea’s defence nightmares. However, it was his clinical finishing this time out that has earned him a place in the team of the week. The Algerian winger picked up two goals, with the first a composed first-time half-volley to beat Emiliano Martinez. Just as he did against United in Gameweek 1, Belloumi showed that he can perform against top opposition and will be a problem for any defence this season.
CM – Bruno Guimarães – Arsenal – 8.5/10
Guimarães opened the scoring for Arsenal against Sunderland just under 15 minutes after coming on as a substitute at half-time. The Brazilian sured up the midfield after coming on and helped Arsenal manage a difficult away game. Arsenal remain perfect after four games, and Guimarães is looking more impressive game after game.
CM – Pascal Groß – Brighton – 9.0/10
Groß produced one of his classic all-round midfield performances against Coventry. The German bossed the midfield and provided 2 assists. He also got himself on the scoresheet from the penalty spot, capping off an excellent individual display. With Brighton winning 5-0 and Groß picking up three goal contributions, he had to make this team of the week.
LM – Kevin Schade – Brentford – 9.0/10
Schade scored both of Brentford’s goals in their 2-2 draw with Bournemouth, taking him up to three for the season already. The German winger is becoming a consistent threat for the Bees, and looks to be developing into a serious talent. His pace, movement and finishing made him one of the biggest threats of the weekend.
ST – Dominic Calvert-Lewin – Leeds – 9.5/10
Calvert-Lewin was the standout player of the entire game week. The Leeds striker scored and should have been awarded a second (skimmed off of Bogle’s head), but regardless, played a huge role in the 4-1 demolition of Newcastle. His goal was a composed finish, cutting onto his right foot in the box, before firing into the Newcastle net. Calvert-Lewin looks back to his best and is producing performances reminiscent of his Everton days.
ST – Emersonn – Ipswich – 8.5/10
Emersonn was a big reason why Ipswich came away from Selhurst Park with all three points. The Brazilian striker produced a goal and an assist, but was then sadly forced off in the second half due to injury. The 22-year-old has already picked up two goals in the Premier League this season and looks like he could be key in the Tractor Boys staying up. Emersonn’s attacking performance deserves a place alongside Calvert-Lewin in this week’s front two.
