América shakes up the market with transfer for Miguel Borja

América officially announced the signing of Miguel Borja as a new addition for the 2026 Apertura. The Colombian forward arrives from Al Wasl in the United Arab Emirates and joins the team led by Guillermo Almada.

Borja arrives to compete for the center-forward position and fill one of the roles the Águilas were looking to strengthen to complete their roster. The Azulcrema front office is also working on signings for the midfield and the right wing. The deal was finalized after the forward spent six months in the United Arab Emirates. Borja left River Plate in late 2025 and subsequently joined Al Wasl before returning to the Americas.

América paid $2.5 million to finalize the signing. The Colombian signed a one-season contract, with an option to extend his deal for another year, and became the team’s third signing for the 2026 Apertura.

Borja already came close to joining Liga MX

The Colombian forward came close to playing in Mexican soccer earlier this year. Borja traveled to Mexico with the intention of joining Cruz Azul and had practically sealed a deal to play in the 2026 Clausura. However, Cruz Azul was unable to register him because it had already filled all nine available spots for non-Mexican-trained players. The deal fell through, and Borja returned to the United Arab Emirates.

Eight months later, the striker returned to Mexico, this time to play for América. Borja arrived in Mexico City on Wednesday to undergo physical tests before joining the Águilas.

Miguel Borja Has World Cup Experience

América’s new forward also has international experience with the Colombian national team. Borja was part of the Colombian squad that competed in the 2018 World Cup in Russia and has participated in various stages of the national team’s development. With his arrival, América adds a new option for Guillermo Almada in the attack and, for now, fills one of the positions that the Azulcrema front office had identified as a priority for the 2026 Apertura.
