The rain showed no sign of letting up, but neither did the excitement. Atlante and León tied 1-1 in a Liga MX match that had it all, from shots off the posts and a penalty kick to a last-minute goal that sent the Banorte Stadium into a frenzy.
Los Potros once again let a chance to secure a home victory slip away, while La Fiera salvaged a point that allows them to continue climbing the standings.
The rain played a major role in the match
Even before the opening whistle, the weather was already the main story. Heavy rain fell on Banorte Stadium, leaving the field extremely slippery. This forced players from both teams to exercise caution and avoid overly aggressive tackles to maintain control on the turf. Even so, Atlante was the team that managed to create the first clear scoring chances.
The Potros came very close to opening the scoring on two occasions, but both shots ended up crashing off the right post of the goal defended by Óscar García. León also tried to respond, though its leading attackers were unable to find the back of the net. Diber Cambindo and Ismael Díaz struggled to get past the Azulgrana defense, and the score remained unchanged throughout the first half.
León shuffled its lineup
For the second half, Javier Gandolfo decided to make some substitutions, also keeping in mind the physical toll on his squad. La Fiera had played midweek in Denver for the Leagues Cup, so the coach sought to give some of his players a rest and keep the team fresh for the final stretch.
For several minutes, the match settled into a slower pace again, but everything changed as the final stretch of the game approached.
The penalty put León ahead
The game finally broke open around the 80th minute. A handball inside the box was reviewed by VAR, and after analyzing the play, the referee awarded a penalty kick to León.
Alfonso Alvarado stepped up to take it, and the forward fired a shot across the goal that left Óscar Jiménez with no chance and put La Fiera up 1-0. It looked like the Esmeralda team would take home the three points, but Atlante still had something to say.
Serrafiore saved the day for Atlante
The Azulgranas went all out on the attack during the final minutes of regulation time, and the pressure finally paid off. Argentine Martín Serrafiore found an opening and fired a powerful shot across the goal that beat García to tie the game at 1-1. Banorte Stadium erupted, and Atlante managed to salvage a point practically at the very end.
León still had one last chance to snatch the victory. Alvarado reappeared in the box and came within inches of becoming the hero of the night once again, but the post intervened once more to prevent the visitors’ second goal.

With the draw, Atlante continues to drift further from the top of the standings and lets another opportunity to earn three points at home slip away.
León, on the other hand, can walk away with a more positive outlook. La Fiera managed to earn a point in a tough match—after competing in the Leagues Cup midweek—and continues to gain ground in the Liga MX standings.
