Barcelona is preparing a new offer in an attempt to sign Rodri, while negotiations with Manchester City remain ongoing.
The Catalan club has already reached a personal agreement with the Spanish midfielder, who is said to have chosen the Spanish champion over Real Madrid. However, the first two offers submitted by Barcelona were rejected by Manchester City.
The English club values the 30-year-old player at more than 70 million euros, so Barcelona’s new offer is expected to be in a similar range.
Rodri Is Back
Rodri returned to Manchester this week after enjoying a few days off following Spain’s victory at the 2026 World Cup, held last month in North America.
On Friday, he had his first meeting with Enzo Maresca. The Manchester City coach declined to confirm whether the two will work together this season and left open the possibility of moves during the transfer window.
Maresca explained that, as long as the transfer window remains open, anything could happen. He also noted that he had just seen Rodri and found him in good shape, so they’ll have time to get to know each other and assess the situation.
Manchester City Shapes Its Midfield
Rodri’s future is also tied to the moves Manchester City is making in its midfield. Bernardo Silva left for Real Madrid as a free agent, while the English club is finalizing Tijjani Reijnders’ departure to Al Qadsiah.
In anticipation of Rodri’s possible departure, Manchester City has already signed English midfielder Elliot Anderson from Nottingham Forest in a deal worth 116 million pounds.
The team is also considering other options to strengthen that area of the field, including Enzo Fernández of Chelsea and Ayyoub Bouaddi of Lille.
In Fernández’s case, Manchester City faces a 120 million pound asking price from Chelsea, a figure that makes it difficult for the deal to be finalized within the established timeframe.
Barcelona, meanwhile, is preparing a new bid for Rodri and hopes that this third offer will finally bring the Spanish international to the Blaugrana.
