The Premier League’s leading scorers dominated against the Premier League champions, with Brighton securing a dominant 3-0 win against Arsenal at the AMEX Stadium. Arsenal’s nine-game run of league wins came to an end with Brighton once again finding their offensive edge.
Gross and Kostoulas at the heart of the first half action
Brighton made the opening blow in the 31st minute through Pascal Gross. With a short pass from Kostoulas, the veteran midfielder found himself in plenty of space and unleashed a well-hit shot past David Raya.
Right before halftime, Brighton struck again through Charalampos Kostoulas. Arsenal’s center-backs were hesitant to apply pressure, and the young striker made them pay with a long-range strike. Kostoulas hit a powerful shot past Raya and into the bottom-left corner to make it 2-0, further confirming Brighton’s dominance in the match.
Chema Andrés completes Brighton’s perfect day
Brighton put the result to bed in the 57th minute, once again opening Arsenal’s lackluster defense but this time via a set piece. Gross delivered a superb corner into the six-yard box, with Chema André powering a header in off the post to make it 3-0 for Brighton.
What’s next for Brighton and Arsenal?
Brighton head into the international break with 10 points and a league-high goal difference of +11, while Arsenal will have plenty of time to reflect on what went wrong this afternoon. Next up for Brighton is a battle on the road at the Stadium of Light vs. Sunderland. For Arsenal, the Gunners will be looking to bounce back at home against Leeds United.
