Barcelona’s renovated Camp Nou was chosen by UEFA to host the 2029 Champions League final, beating out Wembley Stadium in London in the bidding process.
The decision was announced on Tuesday and represents recognition of the new Camp Nou, whose reconstruction is still underway. The stadium will have a capacity of more than 104,000 spectators, although the upper deck and roof are still under construction.
“Barcelona’s bid prevailed largely thanks to the unique features of Spotify Camp Nou, with a capacity of more than 104,000 spectators and VIP facilities that no other European stadium currently offers,” the club said in a statement.
The selection also places Barcelona at the center of a high-profile match ahead of the 2030 World Cup, which Spain will co-host with Portugal and Morocco. Barça will once again host a final of Europe’s top competition after Camp Nou hosted the 1999 edition. On that occasion, Manchester United stunned Bayern Munich with two goals in stoppage time.
Wembley, for its part, has hosted three finals since then: in 2011, 2013, and 2024. In total, the London stadium has hosted eight European Cup or Champions League finals.
Munich will host the final again in 2028
The UEFA Executive Committee also confirmed that the 2028 Champions League final will be played at Bayern Munich’s stadium. The venue was the sole candidate and will host the match just three years after the 2025 edition.
This season’s final will take place at the Metropolitano Stadium in Madrid, home of Atlético.
Lyon and Cardiff to host Women’s Champions League finals
For the Women’s Champions League, UEFA selected Olympique Lyon as the host for the 2028 final. The French club holds the record with eight titles in the competition.
The 2029 final will be played in Cardiff at the National Stadium located in the city center, which will also host the opening match of the 2028 Men’s European Championship.
Bucharest and Belgrade to host the Europa League finals
UEFA has designated Romania’s National Stadium in Bucharest as the host venue for the 2028 Europa League final.
A year later, the title match will be played at Serbia’s new national stadium, currently under construction on the outskirts of Belgrade. Serbian soccer will co-host next year’s Men’s Under-21 European Championship alongside Albania.
The selection of Belgrade came days after Red Star and Partizan fans paid tribute to convicted war criminal Ratko Mladic. UEFA fined Red Star this month for chants in honor of Mladic during a Europa League match.
This season’s Europa League final will be played at the Waldstadion, home of Eintracht Frankfurt.
Turin and Budapest to host the Conference League finals
The 2028 Conference League final will be hosted at Juventus Stadium in Turin. For 2029, UEFA selected the Puskás Aréna in Budapest, which seats 67,000 spectators.
The Hungarian venue hosted the Champions League final in May. Since the launch of the Conference League in 2021, the venues for its finals have exceeded the 20,000-spectator capacity of the first two title matches, held in Tirana and Prague.
Real Madrid, the last of the 12 founding clubs of the Super League to withdraw from the project, reached an agreement with UEFA in February. Its Santiago Bernabéu Stadium, which currently seats about 78,000 people for major matches, has hosted four European Cup or Champions League finals, though not since 2010.
