Gilberto Mora has already taken an important step off the field. A few days after turning 18, the Xolos de Tijuana soccer player went to a National Electoral Institute (INE) office to apply for his voter ID card for the first time.
The player, who came of age on October 14, visited the institute’s offices in Tijuana, where he interacted with staff and some citizens who were there.
The INE itself shared images of the visit and highlighted the young soccer player’s participation in this civic process.
“Even on the field of civic engagement, he leads by example!” the agency posted, identifying the national team player as Gilberto Rafael “Morita” Mora.
Mora Turns 18, and Expectations Are Rising
Coming of age also marks a new chapter for the Mexican soccer player, whose name has appeared in reports regarding interest from major European clubs.
Liverpool, Borussia Dortmund, Benfica, Real Madrid, and Barcelona are among the teams mentioned as possible destinations for the player, although no transfer has been confirmed so far.
Turning 18 also changes the regulatory landscape for a potential move to European soccer, as FIFA’s general restrictions on international transfers of minors no longer apply in the same way.
However, his birthday does not mean his future is set in stone. His agent, Rafaela Pimenta, clarified that there would be no immediate announcement and that any move would have to wait until the transfer window opens.
For now, Gilberto Mora remains with Xolos de Tijuana, while anticipation grows regarding the next steps for one of Mexican soccer’s rising stars.
