Armando “Hormiga” González has already scored his first goal with Greece’s Olympiacos. The Mexican forward took advantage of his first start with the Greek team to score his first goal against AEL in the Greek Cup.
González made his mark in the 34th minute with a header from inside the six-yard box. The Mexican forward thus reaped the rewards of his first start with Olympiacos, following his previous match, in which he was unable to show everything he had hoped to.
After scoring, “La Hormiga” celebrated in a very unique way. The forward performed the famous “Kamehameha” gesture with both hands, a signature move of Goku, a character from the Dragon Ball Z series.
The goal comes after a difficult start for González in Greek soccer. In his first match with Olympiacos, he had a few missteps and hit the post with a shot—situations that prevented him from scoring on his debut.
The Mexican forward himself acknowledged at the time that “I could have done much better,” though he also noted that he enjoyed his first experience in European soccer. Now, in his first start, González responded with his first goal in Europe.
But the Mexican’s contribution didn’t end there. In the second half, “La Hormiga” also assisted on Olympiacos’ third goal, heading the ball down for Bruno Roca to volley it into the net in the Greek Cup.
At 23, Armando González is beginning to make his mark with Olympiacos, with the goal of earning a spot on the Greek team and continuing to be considered for the Mexican national team, currently coached by Rafael Márquez.
