León put on a true showcase and secured its spot in the semifinals of the 2026 Leagues Cup after dominating in their 3-0 win vs. Real Salt Lake.
La Fiera started slow but picked up steam, eventually dominating an MLS team that managed to stay in the game for much of the match. However, once León found the back of the net, the game practically swung entirely in the Mexican team’s favor.
The standout player of the match was Diber Cambindo, who scored a brace to lead León’s decisive victory. Sebastián Vegas also found the back of the net to cap off the rout. With this result, León joins Rayados as one of the teams that have already secured their place among the top four in the competition.
Cambindo paves the way for León
The match began fairly evenly. Real Salt Lake tried to go toe-to-toe with León and managed to keep the score tied in the opening minutes. However, in the 21st minute, Diber Cambindo made his mark. The Colombian forward found space inside the box and slotted the ball into the back of the net to make it 1-0 for La Fiera.
The goal slightly shifted the momentum of the match. Real Salt Lake had to push forward in search of the equalizer, while León began to find spaces to mount more dangerous attacks. Even so, the MLS team managed to stay in the game for much of the match.
Sebastián Vegas scores the second
Real Salt Lake’s resistance finally crumbled in the second half. In the 66th minute, Sebastián Vegas stepped up to score León’s second goal, making it 2-0. The blow was too much for the American team, which began to lose intensity and confidence as the minutes ticked away.
León, on the other hand, seized the moment to push for a third goal that would definitively seal the series.
Cambindo scores a spectacular goal to seal the match
The night belonged to Diber Cambindo. The forward stepped up once again to score his second goal of the night, completing his brace and sealing the final 3-0 score. The goal completely dashed Real Salt Lake’s hopes and confirmed La Fiera’s superiority.
The Emeralds closed out the match with authority and celebrated a victory that places them among the best teams in the Leagues Cup.
Who will León face in the semifinals?
With their spot in the semifinals secured, León now awaits its opponent. La Fiera’s next opponent will come out of the matchup between Toluca and Austin FC, which will determine the next semifinalist in the competition.
On the other side of the bracket are the Rayados, who also secured their spot after defeating the Chicago Fire. For now, La Fiera has done its part: it won by a landslide, put on a convincing performance, and advanced to the semifinals with Diber Cambindo as the star of the show.
