MLS makes its return today, July 16th, from its summer break, with eight teams in action. While the world has been focused on the international game and is now turning its attention to the World Cup final happening this weekend, MLS is set to take the spotlight over the next two days as league action resumes once again.

Montreal vs. Toronto

These two Canadian sides meet up tonight, with Toronto dominating this matchup as of late. In their last five meetings, Toronto have won three games, with the other two games ending in a draw. Montreal’s last win against Toronto was back on August 20, 2023. Both teams are currently outside of the playoff picture, with Montreal (11th) and Toronto (13th) both sitting at 14 points after 14 games played. A win for either side will push them into 10th place in the Eastern Conference.

Chicago vs. Vancouver

The headlines heading into this match will be the potential debut of Robert Lewandowski for Chicago. The legendary Polish striker is expected to play, but there is no word on whether he will start. Chicago is currently 3rd in the Eastern Conference and is playing against a Vancouver team that leads the Western Conference. Lewandowski and Müller are set to face off in a star-studded matchup in Chicago tonight!

*UPDATE: This match has been postponed due to poor air quality in Chicago from the Canadian wildfires.*

St. Louis City vs. Sporting KC

St. Louis City (12th in Western Conference) hosts Sporting Kansas City (15th in WC), a matchup they have dominated at home. Sporting Kansas City has won only one of five matchups at Energizer Park, which occurred during the 2023 playoffs. These matchups in St. Louis have always been high-scoring, with an average of 4.4 goals per contest. Expect some goals tonight.

Seattle Sounders vs. Portland

Lumen Field hosts football once again, after welcoming fans from all over the world across the six World Cup games hosted in Seattle. The Sounders, currently 6th in the Western Conference, host a struggling Portland side who are 13th in the same conference. Both sides need a win, and Portland will be like their chances despite their form. Seattle has won only 1 of their last 10 home MLS matches against Portland, with that victory being a 1-0 win last October.
