Manchester City winger Savinho is closing in on a move to North London side Tottenham Hotspur. The Brazilian youngster has struggled for game time over the last year, and has now asked to leave Manchester in order to progress his career.
Savinho has been linked with a move to Tottenham since last summer. The Brazilian winger was reportedly interested in a transfer, but Manchester City hesitated to sell, with CEO Ferran Soriano specifically insisting on holding onto the winger. The Manchester club are scarred from the sale of Cole Palmer, after later seeing him explode into the player he now is at Chelsea. They are now cautious of potentially making the same mistake with Savinho.
Fast forward a year and the picture has slightly changed. Savinho played a smaller role last year for City, playing 36 times in all competitions, coming off the bench for 22 of those appearances. The Brazilian scored four goals and provided three assists over the course of the campaign. Manchester City still hold the winger in high regard and are asking for a deal worth upwards of £60 million. The clubs have been in talks over a deal for the 22-year-old since the beginning of the summer, with a verbal agreement rumoured to be reached, but no breakthrough.
Savinho has informed Manchester City of his desire to leave in search of more game time and to develop his career. This should now see the deal start to accelerate. However, City still wish to find a replacement before giving the green light to let the Brazilian leave. This transfer saga is definitely one to keep an eye on in the coming days of the window.
