Matchday 2 of the Champions League offers a star-studded lineup this Tuesday, October 13, and Wednesday, October 14, with all eyes on the Stadio Olimpico: If Kylian Mbappé plays against Roma, he will reach 100 European Cup appearances at the age of 27 years and 298 days, becoming the youngest player in history to reach that milestone, ahead of Lionel Messi, who did so at 28 years and 84 days.

Real Madrid kicked off the group stage with a 2-1 win over Inter, while Roma drew 1-1 on the road against Fenerbahçe. Real Madrid has won its last four matches against Roma without conceding a goal and has prevailed in five of its six previous visits to the Italian capital. But the Olimpico is a fortress: Roma has won eight of its last nine Champions League home games. José Mourinho adds an extra layer of intrigue, as he returns to what was his home from 2021 to 2024, where he won the inaugural Conference League. Mbappé is expected to start alongside Vinícius Júnior and Jude Bellingham.

The other highlight is on Wednesday in Manchester: City hosts PSG, the defending champion. Based on information from the European preview, Erling Haaland has scored 59 goals in 59 Champions League matches—tying Sergio Agüero’s club record—while Ousmane Dembélé has scored in five consecutive European matches, netting eight goals. City has lost only one of its last 25 home games in group stage or league play; PSG, on the other hand, is undefeated in its last 11 European matches against English clubs.

There’s also history on the line on Tuesday: Atlético Madrid hosts Manchester United, and Atlético has never beaten an English team in the group stage. Arsenal, on a 13-game winning streak, hosts Lille. And Barcelona, which routed Feyenoord 5-1 on Matchday 1, visits Galatasaray in Istanbul.
