FC Barcelona’s pre-season preparations have begun, with the team travelling to their training camp at St. George’s Park in England ahead of their pre-season opener against Birmingham City on Friday. Barcelona will also face Preston North End on Monday, August 3, in a behind-closed-doors match.
With many players unavailable due to this summer’s World Cup, Flick announced a squad mixed with youth and experience.
The 30-man squad
- Goalkeepers: Ter Stegen, Szczesny, Yaakobishvili, Iker Rodriguez
- Defenders: Araujo, Fort, Balde, Cortes, Xavi Espart, Christensen, Gerard Martin, Jofre, Pesquer
- Midfielders: De Jong, Casado, Tommy, Brian Fariñas, Diarra, Bernal, Fermin, Orian Goren, Guille
- Forwards: Adeyemi, Abdelkarim, O. Gistau, A. Fernandez, Roony, E. Tunkara, Alex Gonzalez, S. Kluivert
The squad features new signing Karim Adeyemi, along with Ronaldo Araujo and Fermin Lopez, both of whom did not play in the World Cup due to summer injuries. Frenkie de Jong, who is injured, traveled with the squad, and Raphinha will join the team later in the week.
Following their trip to England, Barcelona will head to Italy for their triangular tournament on August 8 with Nottingham Forest and Udinese. Barca then conclude their preseason as they host Al Ahly for the Joan Gamper Trophy on August 19.
