Major League Soccer (MLS) returns to action on Friday as NYCFC hosts Red Bull New York in a Hudson River Derby at Yankee Stadium. All 30 teams are in action this weekend as the playoff picture continues to take shape down the stretch.
Hudson Derby battle at Yankee Stadium
The Matchday 26 opener sees NYCFC welcome their cross-river rivals to Yankee Stadium in one of MLS’s most iconic derbies. Both sides will be eager to pick up a result not just for local bragging rights, but to boost their standing in a crowded Eastern Conference playoff race. NYCFC (8th) currently stand just two points ahead of Red Bull New York (10th), so a win for either side will be very important for their playoff hopes. One thing you can expect is goals, as there has been just one goalless draw in 34 Hudson River Derby meetings.
Nashville look to continue their historic form
Nashville SC, who have been in record-breaking form this campaign, host Chicago Fire FC on Saturday night looking to continue their push at the top of the Eastern Conference. This has been a favorable fixture for Nashville, who have scored 17 goals in five home meetings against Chicago (winning four of those).
Vancouver head to Salt Lake as they look to keep top spot out West
Vancouver head to Utah on Saturday night in a key Western Conference clash for the Western Conference leaders. The Whitecaps have been at or near the top of the West for much of the season, and a result on the road would be crucial for keeping their top spot. This has been a tough destination for Vancouver as they have won just 3 of 17 visits to the America First Field.
Inter Miami want to keep momentum from Campeones Cup win
Inter Miami CF host San Diego FC at Nu Stadium on Sunday, with Lionel Messi and company looking to keep pace in 2nd place with New England chasing them. San Diego will provide a stern test for Miami, who have drawn four of their last six MLS matches. Their midweek win against Cruz Azul in the Campeones Cup will give them confidence, but Inter Miami will know their quality of play needs to improve.
