World Soccer.—Atlas secured a crucial victory in their away match against Atlético de San Luis. With a lone goal by Florián Monzón, the Rojinegros won 1-0 in Matchday 15 of the 2026 Apertura and dealt a significant blow in the race for the top spots in Liga MX.
The match, played at Alfonso Lastras Stadium, was quite tight during the first half. Although the San Luis team tried to take the initiative and create danger from the opening minutes, they were met with a Rojinegro defense that managed to maintain its composure and prevent the home team’s attacks from resulting in a goal.
Óscar Macías, Rafael Llorente, and Eduardo Águila were among the players who sought to open the scoring for San Luis, but their efforts went unrewarded. On the other side, Atlas also failed to find the necessary openings to create danger, so both teams went into halftime tied at zero.
Florián Monzón stepped up to secure the win for Atlas

The story changed in the second half. Atlas pushed forward and began pressing the opponent’s goal with greater intensity, until they found the opportunity they needed.
In the 63rd minute, Florián Monzón capitalized on a turnover in the danger zone and unleashed a powerful shot from outside the box that found the back of the net. The San Luis goalkeeper was unable to stop the shot, and the visitors took a 1-0 lead.
Atlético de San Luis tried to react quickly and sought the equalizer with substitutions from the bench. However, despite their attempts and efforts to find openings in the red-and-black defense, they were unable to beat Camilo Vargas again.
The Guadalajara-based team held on through the final minutes and took home three crucial points from San Luis Potosí.
Atlas Joins the Fight for the Top Spots

With this result, Atlas reached 27 points and temporarily climbed to second place in the overall standings, after securing its sixth away victory in the 2026 Apertura.
For its part, Atlético de San Luis remained on 19 points in 11th place, complicating its chances of closing in on the playoff spots with two matchdays remaining in the regular season.
Despite the loss, the San Luis team had a stronger offensive presence and recorded 22 shots during the match, though only four were on goal. Atlas, on the other hand, needed fewer chances to secure the win.
In the next matchday, the Rojinegros will host Pachuca, while Atlético de San Luis will look to bounce back against FC Juárez.
The victory puts Atlas in a favorable position to close out the regular season, while San Luis will have little room for error if it wants to keep its hopes of advancing to the next stage of the tournament alive.
