Diego Campillo breathes a sigh of relief: Fracture ruled out after the Clásico Tapatío

The Chivas defender has already received the results of his medical tests after being injured in the Clásico Tapatío against Atlas; there is no fracture in the fifth metatarsal, but the club has not yet provided a recovery timeline.

The scare turned out to be nothing serious. Diego Campillo now knows the diagnosis after leaving the Clásico Tapatío with an injury: medical tests ruled out any fracture in the fifth metatarsal of his right foot, according to reports from various media outlets in Mexico.

The Chivas defender was unable to return for the second half of the match against Atlas at Estadio Jalisco. Severe pain in his right foot prevented him from walking normally, so Carlos Hernández took his place for the second half.

Concerns arose immediately: the red-and-white team went into the Clásico with five players already sidelined, and Campillo’s injury raised fears of the worst as the regular season draws to a close, with Chivas fighting to stay near the top of the standings and secure a direct berth in the 2026 Apertura playoffs.

After the match, head coach Gabriel Milito confirmed in a press conference that the player reported discomfort in the fifth metatarsal of his right foot—an area where he felt a “bad sensation”—and announced that he would undergo the necessary tests the following day.

There was a clear reason for concern: Campillo suffered a fracture in that same area last year, so there were fears of a recurrence following the discomfort he experienced during the match.

The results came in this Sunday and brought relief: there is no fracture. However, so far the club has not issued an official statement regarding the estimated recovery time, nor has it indicated whether the player will be ruled out for the next match.
