England get the better of Nigeria on penalties

England faced off against Nigeria at Lang Park in Brisbane. The Three Lionesses struggled to break down a stubborn Nigeria on penalty kicks. The game had to go to penalty kicks which England eventually won. England who are the favorites continue their pursuit to winning the World Cup. Just was not to be for a resilient Nigeria team

It was absolute heartbreak for Nigeria against England in the penalty shootout. As a matter of fact keeper Nnadozie was so heartbroken that she was reduced to tears at the end of the match. The Super Eagles had given it everything until the final whistle. Nigeria were close to taking the lead in the 16th minute as Ashleigh Plumptree had struck the post. Kanu had then struck the post once again as Nigeria were searching for their big moment however it just was not to be. Despite losing to England Nigeria will keep their heads high and hope to return stronger next time around.

England to miss James in the last eight

Despite not managing to score over 120 minutes England managed to get past Nigeria on penalty kicks. England were threatened by Nigeria on multiple occasions but managed to hold their nerve to reach the quarterfinals. They even had a chance to take the lead in the 75th minute but Daly’s header was saved by Nnadozie. England will now go on to face either Colombia or Jamaica who have been very impressive in the tournament. This will be a much sterner test as both these teams have been more impressive than Nigeria. They will also be missing Lauren James who was sent off for stomping on Alozie.
