The Spanish national team will face its final test before the start of the World Cup without one of its key players. Lamine Yamal will not travel to Puebla for the friendly match against Peru and will remain in Chattanooga, where he continues his recovery process.

The 18-year-old suffered an injury on April 22 during a La Liga match with Barcelona. Since then, he has been working to be in top form for La Roja’s World Cup opener, scheduled for June 15 against Cape Verde.

The decision to keep him in the United States aims to speed up his recovery. Yamal will continue training in Chattanooga, the location chosen by the Spanish Football Federation as the team’s training camp during the World Cup.

The young forward is not the only player missing from the match against Peru. Nico Williams and Víctor Muñoz also remained in the United States to continue their respective physical training. This situation had already been anticipated during Saturday’s practice, when the three players participated in only part of the session and avoided the more intense and contact-heavy drills.

The match at Cuauhtémoc Stadium will be Spain’s final test before kicking off its World Cup campaign. Afterward, the team will return to Chattanooga to wrap up its preparations for the tournament.

Placed in Group H alongside Uruguay, Cape Verde, and Saudi Arabia, the Spanish national team is considered one of the favorites to advance to the next round and make a strong showing in the World Cup.
